Easter pattern block printables your children are sure to love playing with this Easter!
Pattern blocks are one of my most favourite materials for encouraging block play in class and at home.
What are pattern blocks? They are collection of 6 different coloured small shapes made from either wood or plastic. They have been in classrooms since I was when I was in preschool. I still remember playing with them in my mother's classroom.
Few can resist playing with the different shapes to make symmetrical designs and tessellations. Pattern blocks can also be used to create themed invitations like we have done with these Easter pattern block printables.
These print to a single page Easter pattern block spin and cover games are so simple to prep! Just decide if you want to use the coloured designs or the print friendly B+W versions then choose from 12 different designs - I made a mix of Easter eggs, rabbits and Easter baskets to make.
Grab a small pile of pattern blocks, a sharp pencil and a paper clip to make your own spinner and you're ready to start playing!
WHAT DO MY CHILDREN LEARN?
What are children learning to do when using printables like these pattern block games?
Printable games and matching mats help young children to develop visual discrimination skills as they need look at the size and attributes of each shape in order to match the correct pattern block to the pictured design as they can not simply rely on matching colours like simpler invitations allow them to do.
These pattern block mats also help children practice their spatial awareness skills meaning they need to manipulate the block to make it fit correctly.
This might mean flipping, sliding, turning or rotating the block into position.
And because these mats are formatted as a game, they're also helping build social and fine motor skills.
The spinners take a little co-ordination for young children to master. I help them by poking a small hole in the centre of the spinner to their pencil will sit more easily in the middle for them.
Turn taking, rule following and fair play are also evident as children wait to fill up their mats with the correct blocks with each spin of the paper clip.
