Being between 5-7 years of age, many of my class learn best with hands-on activities that help them reinforce ideas intentionally taught in class.
Our FREE Say It, Make It, Write It Mats have been incredibly useful in our math centres but they didn't offer much visual support for my less confident students nor did they allow the children to see how many ways number can be represented - quantity, numeral, number word.

So much that many of you wrote and asked if I could create some number mats using the same format.
Our original Say It, Make It, Write It mats were made for practicing our sight words but we quickly found it they can be used so many different ways including for maths.

Focusing on numbers from 0-10, these word mats are ideal for connecting young children's understanding of number and quantity to number words.
The mats are designed for hands-on exploration of numbers. Print, laminate and then simply add whiteboard markers and some playdough or Wix Stix.
They invite children to say the word first then read it before making the word or number and trying to write it.
A ten frame is included for them to draw the number as well.
Once they've mastered their numbers from 0-10, I've also created a teen number set to move on to.
They're formatted slightly differently allowing children to word on their correct letter formation by including a traceable work as one aspect of these teen number mats.
We've started using them in our math centres as well as our literacy centres and they've proved to be perfect for small group or independent work in our classroom helping my students further develop their number sense.
